Story: Code Geass takes place in an alternate world where Great Britain never lost it’s power to the United States. Britain continued to expand it’s influence around the world and eventually conquered the land of Japan. The Japanese had no chance of fighting back against Britain’s Army. They were far too advanced in technology. They had these new fighting machines known as “Nightmare Frames”. These machines were capable of being used as soldiers and also capable of defeating multiple armies. Now it’s several years after the war and life appears to be calm now. Except for the fact the some of the Japanese are unhappy with their new rulers. The Japanese are now called “Elevens” due to the fact that Japan is now known as Area 11. Several Japanese rebels aim to take back their homeland from the British Emperor, but all of their attempts have been futile……until they met a certain high school student by the name of Lelouch Lamperouge 

Review: This show is an amazing piece of work. It is one of those anime series where an average character becomes a threat to everyone around him after having received some sort of special power. When Lelouch gains the power of Geass, he is able to control those around him. A very useful skill for such an intelligent person. This series is very psychological as it often reminds you of the mental battles that were present in Death Note. The protagonist often finds himself in a battle of wits against military leaders and other special humans such as himself. His use of intelligence is nothing short of astounding. Also, the show has a comedic feel to it at time. When you observe Leouch at school, you cant help but to be reminded of your time in high school. Him and his friends always seem to make you laugh. The action in this show is actually quite cool. The nightmare frames do most of the fighting. I’m not really mecha anime’s, but this one is an exception. After a while, the machines start to get new abilities and are able to do some extraordinary moves. The action scenes between these robots are very fun to watch. The drama is very serious in this series. There’s acts of betrayal, murder, and government rebellion. This show practically has no shortcomings…..besides the weird names that is. But other than that, no problems here. If you want to watch something different, with some action, drama, and giant robots thrown into the mix; then check out Code Geass.

Roronoa Zoro

Biography: Roronoa Zoro is a pirate swordsman from the anime “One Piece”. He was raised to become an excellent fighter since his childhood. After constantly losing to a girl, he sought to increase his strength. He took it upon himself to train using three swords instead of two. This style of swordsmanship is known as Santoryu. Using this unique fighting style he travels the seas with the straw hat crew in search of adventure.

Abilities:

Oni Giri: Zoro crosses his arms and charges toward his opponent; then he slashes his foe.

Tora Gari: Zoro brings his swords behind him and slashes diagonally towards his opponent.

Sanzen Sekai: Zoro begins to spin two of his swords and rushes forward to cut the enemy.

Tatsu Maki: Zoro spins and throws his opponent into the sky while cutting them up at the same time.

Yaki Oni Giri: Same as Onigiri, except his blades are on fire 🙂

Onigiri Toragari: Zoro performs his onigiri attack, then he follows it up by jumping in the air and slicing the enemy.

Gazami Dori: This attack looks like a crab claw. Zoro places his sword parallel from one another and then he slashes up and down simultaneously.

108 Pound Cannon: Zoro swings his swords and they create three waves of energy each weighing 36 pounds.

Rashomon: Zoro draws two blades from his side and immediately cuts the object in front of him and then sheathes his swords. 

Asura: Zoro is able to alter his appearance but moving at high speeds, he makes it appear as though he has tripled himself. Hence, there are now 9 swords.

Nitoryu Nigiri Tourou: Zoro takes two swords and slashes upwards.

Review: Zoro is a main character in One Piece. He has been around since the second episode. He’s become a necessary character within the show. He is the Captains first mate and for good reason. Zoro has a headstrong attitude that allows him to accept any challenge. He constantly looks for strong opponents in order to test his skills. Also, there are some comedic aspects to his character. He frequently gets lost due to his terrible sense of direction. The crew makes fun of him for it. Another thing I like about this character is the fact he constantly almost gets beaten to death, but always finishes the fight and continues walking on. This is one cool character.

Top Ten

Welcome to my third top ten countdown. This time, I am counting down the top ten sport anime. These anime were chosen based on how much they actually make you want to go out and try the sport itself. After watching these anime, I tried a few of these sports. It was really cool to watch these. I hope you like them as well.

10) Whistle

We “kick” things off with whistle. A soccer anime about a young boy name Kazematsuri. He  is a master of juggling a soccer ball……and that’s about it. After moving to a new school, he tries his best to make it on the soccer team. His hard work and determination make him a role model for the rest of the team. I tried to juggle a soccer ball after this; it’s harder than it looks lol.

9) Initial D

This spot goes to the revved up anime Initial D. This anime came to my attention after the whole fast and furious phase was going on. This anime is really awesome. There’s action, drama, and of course street racing. Who wouldn’t wanna watch that. This is definitely worth looking up.

8) Hikaru No Go

I know this seems kind of weird, but this series actually qualifies as a sports anime. A young boy named Hikaru is followed by the spirit of a master Go player. He jumps into the world of Go; a board game that is vastly popular is various parts of the world. It requires great intelligence in order to excel in it. Hikaru is now on the verge of discovering his true passion. This anime is filled with awesome story lines, and action……even though it’s about a board game, it’s still very exciting.

7) Air Gear

Air Gear comes flying in at number 7. This is an out of the ordinary story. It’s a breath of fresh air, literally lol. This series deals with a future in which rollerskates contain miniature engines. This enables people to skate on a whole new level. They can skate up wall, jump over great distances, do awesome tricks, and even create fire. Who thought people could fight each other with roller skates? This is amazing series that contains comedy, action, and even some sexiness.

6) Slam Dunk 

Slam dunk! At first I thought this anime wasn’t going to be anything special. But seeing how intense and awesome it is, I quickly changed my mind. Other anime have tried to make basketball look cool, but none have topped this one.

5) Inazuma Eleven

you should all know how much I love this anime. it’s like dragonball z soccer hahaha. that pretty much sums it up. These middle school kids can use super awesome abilities to play soccer. they use dragon kicks, and energy barriers. what else do i need to say hahaha.

4) Major

Finally! A baseball anime. This anime may not be the coolest based on the animation and it may not have a fantasy style like inazuma eleven, but the story involved with this series is just astounding. You get to see the main character go from preschooler to an adult. This is one of the few series where you get an opportunity to see a character completely develop throughout his life.

3) Eyeshield 21

Football makes an appearance. Eyeshield 21 is funny and it’s full of awesome football action. I like the story because, you have a team that no one is interested in joining, then they continue to find new people to join…….a lot of anime use this story line, but I still like it. The cast of characters is unique and amusing to watch. This is definitely an anime worth checking out.

2) Prince of Tennis

I would be an idiot for not including this on my list. Prince of tennis has become synonymous with sports related anime. I immediately wanted to learn how to play tennis. This series has a bunch of cool tennis matches that include really cool techniques ( most of which are impossible to perform in the real world). If you think this series looks kinda boring, i implore you to reconsider.

1) Hajime no Ippo

This anime is in the running for my favorite anime of all time. Every episode of this anime is like watching a Rocky movie. Yes, this is a boxing anime hahaha. Every match leaves you on the edge of your seat, your cheering for the main character and his friends every step of the way. And just when you think you know how the match will end, it always surprises you. This anime will make your heart race every time. WATCH THIS ANIME, WATCH IT NOW!!!!!

Hikaru No Go

Premiered: December 1998

Story: This anime takes place throughout a few years. It’s about a young boy named Hikaru Shindo who uncovers an old go board that contains the ghost of an ancient ghost by the name of Fujiwara no Sai. This ghost becomes attached to Hikaru’s consciousness and speaks to him constantly. Go is a board game that is popular across asian countries. Some people are good enough to become professionals and make a living off this game. Sai continuously prompts Hikaru to play go. Hikaru soon discovers that Sai is considered to be the best go player of all time. When hikaru finally decides to play go, Sai tells hikaru where to place the game pieces and quickly defeats his opponents.  Will Hikaru simply stand back and let Sai play go, or will he develop an interest in this incredible game as well?

Review: This series is an emotional roller coaster. At first you dont know what to think. A board game is an unusual theme for an anime series, But then again, card games are a frequent theme for a lot of anime; such as YU-GI-OH and and Bakugan. I just want to mention that the music present in this show is perhaps the best soundtrack that i have ever heard fir any series. The music gets you excited when two players are facing off, if makes you sympathetic when a character loses, and it get you  pumped up when a character is in training. This anime is considered to be psychological for a reason. The viewer is able to see the hardships and trials that are faced by young people hoping to become professionals and betting everything they have in order to chase their dream. I have watched this series 4 times already, and i never get bored of it. You guys should definitely check it out.

Bakuman

Author: Tsugumi Ohba

Genre: Slice of life, comedy, drama, Romance

Released: October 2010

Story: Moritaka Moshiro is an average junior high student. He is pretty good at drawing. This is due to the fact that he used to hang around his uncle all the time. His uncle was a recognizable mangaka; or manga author. One day Moshiro accidentally leaves his notebook at school and decided to go back and get it. While he’s there, he’s confronted by fellow classmate Akito Takagi. Takagi is the class genius who always gets perfect grades. He is seen holding Moshiro’s notebook. He tells Moshiro that he likes his art and believes that they should team up and write manga together. Akito says he’ll write the story while Moshiro will draw the art. Moshiro is reluctant at first, but then he finally agrees to team up with Akito and become a professional manga artist. The two decide to use a pen name to label all their work. When these two work together, they are known as Muto Ashirogi.

Review: This is a very different type of anime. Its an anime about creating manga and anime. Weird right? That’s what I thought too. But as I progressed through the series, I found myself becoming more and more interested in the amazing story line. This series is written by Tsugumi Ohba, the creator of Death Note. For those of you who are familiar with Death Note, you know that Ohba’s story telling skills are top notch. He also demonstrates his unique view of storytelling in this series. The two main characters, Moshiro and Takagi are on a quest to make a manga that will turn into an anime. This is by no means an easy task. Many steps must be taken, many skills must be learned, and many connections must be made in order to create and maintain a successful manga title. This is also a great show to watch for fans who are curious as to how manga and anime are created, the series displays all the hardships that must be undertaken in order to become a popular manga author. The comedy in this series is also noteworthy, there can be a moment of suspense one minute, and then turn lighthearted and hilarious the next. Ohba is able to maintain a sense of lifelike interactions between the characters and the situation at hand. Most of the time you’ll believe that these are real people and not anime characters. This series is filled with great characters that all serve some sort of purpose. So if your introduced to a new character, chances are, they’ll be around for a long time. When it comes to thinking of the bad points of this series, it’s pretty hard. The only thing I can say is that the romance component of the series may seem a bit strange to most people. I’m assuming that since I’m from the United States, some parts of the show appear to be bizarre or strange. In this case, Moshiro’s relationship with Miho Azuki is a bit annoying to me. But thats just part of the show, and it is a major component of the story line, so I cant complain too much. All in all this is a very unique and amazing series. It worth a shot to check it out.

Top Ten Loners

Hello everyone. This is my second top ten list. I am gonna be listing the top ten anime loners. These are people who prefer to be by themselves rather than be around other people.  Some of them do this out of sheer shyness, others just cant stand other people, and some  just want to be alone or else! Most of the time these characters are nowhere to be found during a normal day, but when a fight occurs, they show up either out of excitement or from necessity.  So, here are the top ten anime loners 🙂

10.  Piccolo

 The #10 spot goes to good old Piccolo. Why? Well because the only time you see him with a group of people is when there’s a big fight going down. He was born as a loner as well, in the original Dragonball series, he trains on his own in order to combat Goku. Later on, he learns to deal with other people a little. But most of the time when Goku and his friends are having fun; Piccolo is at some random location either training or staring off into space.

9.    Kanda Yuu

This one goes to Kanda from the D. Gray Man series. This sword wielding exorcist like to be on his own when it’s possible. Being part of the black order, he has to weak with a team from time to time, but it doesn’t appear as though he enjoys it. He’s one of those people who would rather do everything himself in order to avoid dealing with other people’s stupid mistakes.

8.    Nina Einstein

Nina from the Code Geass has made an appearance. Nina is a highly gifted student in this series. Whenever her friends are talking or having fun, she’s usually glued to her computer. Though I must say, she is a bit crazy, those of you who have seen the series know  what I mean lol.

7. Brago/Sherry

This is the only pair on the list. Brago and Sherry are from the Zatch Bell series. While the main characters are battling other demons to save their lives, Brago and Sherry have their own agenda. They travel the world by themselves in order to fight other demons and become stronger. They don’t like company, and they definitely don’t like anyone getting in their way

6.    Hiei

Hiei is #6. You guys might remember him from the Yu Yu Hakusho series. Hiei is like the cool guy that only shows up when there’s an evil force somewhere. Hiei is one of those guys that like to be alone and looks cool while he’s doing it lol.

5. Sasuke

This one is pretty obvious. Sasuke is always seen training on his own or just hanging out somewhere. He likes to keep his distance from his teammates for a reason. After all that happened during his childhood, I suppose he never really regained trust within people. Even when his friends risked their lives to rescue him from darkness, he merely pushed them away. And for this reason, Sasuke is # 5

4. L

L is in the list as well. L is from Death Note; a fan favorite. He is a world class detective that is capable of solving any crime imaginable. Most of the time he sits next to a computer in order to communicate with his associates. It seems as though he could live his entire life in solitude if he could, all he needs is his computer and his favorite desserts of course.

3. Chrona

From the Soul Eater series, we have Chrona. She is the daughter of an evil witch by the name of Medusa, and so…..she had a pretty messed up childhood. She was forced to perform several inhuman actions in order to please her mother. So, she’s a bit crazy. She is one of the most shy people i have ever seen. If possible, she likes to stay alone in a room while sitting in the corner. She does not like human interaction at all. 

2. Byakuya

Everyone should know who this is. Byakuya is the captain of squad 6 in the Bleach series. He obviously cares about himself and his sense of justice….that’s it. He doesn’t appear to have any emotional connections to any of his comrades. On several occasions, he has even gone as far as to either almost killing them or giving his approval to their deaths. He’s a cold person indeed.

1. Hibari Kyoya

The top stop this week goes to Hibari  from Hitman Reborn. This guy is awesome. He is technically part of Tsuna’s crew, but it sure doesn’t look like it. His sole duty is to protect the school and fight strong opponents. Nothing else matters to this guy. It doesn’t matter if someone considers themselves a friend of his, if you mess with his school or he wants to fight you, you’re screwed. He prefers to be left alone. The only time you see this guy excited is when there’s a tough opponent around. If there’s nothing going on…….leave him alone 🙂

Endo Mamoru

Biography: Endo Mamoru is a student at Raimon Junior High School. His grandfather was the coach of the legendary Raiman Eleven may years ago. Endo tries his best to continue the legacy left by his grandfather. Soccer is pretty much the essence of Endo’s life. He’s the captain and goalkeeper of his school soccer team. He desperately wants everyone on his team to enjoy soccer as much as he does. Equipped with a notebook filled with secret techniques left behind by his grandfather and a never ending belief in soccer, Endou leads him on the soccer field.

Abilities: Warning—-Spoilers ahead 😛

God hand: This is the first technique that Endou is able to learn from his grandfathers notebook. He brings out a giant hand that is used to block the goal.

Nekketsu Punch: Endou punches the ball with all his might.

Bakuretsu Punch: Endou punches the ball multiple times, then finishes it off with an uppercut.

Majin the Hand: Endou summons Majin; a sort of demon. Together, they perform a palm strike and block the ball.

Fist of Justice: Endou brings out a giant glowing twisting fist that punches the ball.

Megaton Head: Similar to fist of justice, except Endou uses his head to strike the ball

Hammer of Wrath: Endou summons Majin and uses his fist to smash the ball down into the ground.

Ijigen the Hand: Endou smashes the ground and creates a spiraling force field, once the ball touches the force field, it slides off into another direction away from the goal.

God Catch: This is last technique that Endou’s grandfather left behind. Endous summons a giant spirit and they both use their hands to catch the ball.

Review: Endou is an awesome soccer captain. He is always able to rally up his teammates and have them play at their fullest. His never wavering spirit is his best quality. Another one of his good qualities is his work ethic. If he;s not playing soccer, he’s training somewhere on his own. He continuously improves his skills. He is voiced by Junko Takeuchi, the same person that does the voice for Naruto Uzumaki which is pretty cool. His story is also interesting. I don’t want to reveal too much about him, but let’s just the story gets good. Endou is a natural born leader and a good friend to his teammates.

Inazuma Eleven

Genre: Sports, Action, Adventure

Released: October 2008

Story: Inazuma Eleven centers around a young middle school boy by the name of Endo Mamoru. He has a burning passion for soccer. But unfortunately, his teammates don’t really care. These kids go to Raimon Junior High School. Many years ago, there was a great soccer team that played for this school known as the Raimon Eleven, but time has passed and no one really cares about soccer anymore; except for Endo that is. Endo tries his best to continue on the legacy left by his grandfather; the coach of the legendary Raimon Eleven. Endou is the goalkeeper for his team, and tries to convince his teammates that soccer is more than just a game, it’s a magical feeling of two teams trying their best to defeat the other while putting everything on the line. Will Endo ever get his teammates to enjoy soccer as much as he does? I urge you to watch and find out 🙂

Review: When I first saw this, I was like “what the hell?” I have seen other soccer anime such as whistle and striker. They are more realistic than this series. But that’s a good thing. If I could describe Inazuma Eleven in one phrase, it would be “Dragon Ball Z Soccer.” I know that sounds strange, but it is really awesome. In this series, players can use “Hissatsu Techniques.”  They’re kinda like super power soccer moves. These range from giant hands to block the goal, fire tornado kicks, and even stopping time. Once you get into this series, it gets really hard to stop watching it. It super addicting and fun to see. Now, I will say that the matches do get a bit repetitive from time to time, but thats ok. You keep watching to see if a new hissatsu technique pops up, or a surprising plot twists occurs. The characters themselves are great as well. Each player has their own unique personality and hissatsu techniques. Its entertaining to see them grow and develop new moves on the soccer field. Another great thing about this series is the length. Its got 127 episodes. Most soccer anime have less than 50 episodes and only deal with one tournament or event. This series goes way beyond that. Endo and his friends have to overcome so much more than just a simple tournament. It’s like grand soccer adventure. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for something new to watch. Even if you hate soccer, you will still love this series. GO RAIMON!!!

Fairy Tail

Story: The story of Fairy Tail takes place in a country known as Fiore. In this world, there are people who are able to use magical powers. Some use them for entertainment, others use them to make their lives easier. And then there are those who use it for battle. These people often join a mage’s guild. Once in a guild, you can earn money for completing quests and other favors. This anime centers around the adventures of a specific guild that goes by the name of “Fairy Tail”. In this anime, Fairy Tail goes through many trials and tribulations in order to become the greatest mage’s guild ever. The story’s main character in known as Natsu Dragneel. He is a member of Fairy Tail and a user of dragon-slayer magic; a special magic that was developed in order to defeat dragons. Along with his favorite companion; happy, a flying cat, they meet new friends and look for Natsu’s long lost Father.

Review: Yet another awesome anime from the mind of Hiro Mashima. For those of you who don’t know, Hiro also created Rave Master. This is his second major anime. It looks like he focused on what Rave Master was lacking, and then he created this work with those things in mind. If you look closely, some characters in Fairy Tail look similar to Rave Master Characters. Anyway, this is quite a piece of work. Fairy Tail is such an original story, and yet so simple, I’m surprised no one else has come up with a story like this. This show is filled with awesome magical battles and shocking plot twists. Its always interesting to watch. The chemistry between the characters is refreshing to say the least. Each member of Fairy Tail has there own personality and background story, they are all revealed beautifully at the perfect moment. Now for the bad part of this series. Hiro Mashima is able to create an awesome story, but it seems as though he doesn’t really like violence too much. Yes, the action scenes are intense, but the amount of blood and actual damage appears to be minimal. When compared to other anime such as naruto and bleach, the action scenes seem to lacking a certain sense of  impact and fierceness. Also, the story gets a bit repetitive. Fairy Tail has to fight another guild, it appears as if they have no chance of victory, they the tables get turned near the end of the battle. This repetition is the biggest flaw of Fairy Tail in my opinion. Fairy Tail still has an amazing story and a great group of characters. It is currently one of the most popular anime around.

Top Ten Strategists

Hey everyone, I have decided that every week I will be doing a top ten list every week. This First week, i have decided to do the top ten strategists. These people use their brain to win battles. They also stun the fans by coming up with solutions to complicated and almost impossible problems. So, here we go

10) Sadaharu Inui

Inui grabs the #10 spot this week. He is from prince of tennis, an incredible sports anime. He uses his “data tennis” to defeat his opponents. He like to record the data and stats of every tennis player around him. He takes this data and uses it to predict where the ball will land, and also identify his opponents weaknesses. His trademarks are his shiny glasses and his data book.

9) Hikaru Shindo

#9 goes to Hikaru Shindo from Hikaru No Go. Hikaru is a professional Go player. An ancient game of strategy played mostly in Asian countries. Throughout the series, you witness Hikaru go from beginner to a formidable go player capable of going up against professional players around the globe. Hikaru’s ability to quickly learn new strategies at a fast pace makes him #9

8) Hiruma Youichi

Hiruma Youichi is the star quarterback from Eyeshield 21. He lacks the physical strength of your average football player. He makes up for it by having a strong mind. He comes up with strange plays that involve unorthodox movements and strategy. He has an eye for talent which he uses to scout new players.  His ability to think under pressure and not being afraid to take a risk, Hiruma make an awesome quarterback. 

7) Edward Elric

Edward Elric takes the stage! Being a state alchemist is a pretty hard job, especially when your short like Edward. Able to think on his feet, Edward can turn a hopeless situation into a victory. Knowing pretty much the elements that make up every material in the world, Edward can transform ordinary objects into weapons. This ability opens up a world of possibilities for Edward, and he’s able to take full advantage of it.

6) Fukiwara-No-Sai

Sai is the mentor and guardian spirit of Hikaru Shindou. He is a ghost that lived for hundreds of years. He spends his spare time coming up with strategies for go. He aids Hikaru from time to time but he is known all around the world for defeating Toya Meijin; Japan’s number 1 go player. The fact that he is an ancient spirit allows him all the time in the world to think up new ways to beat his foes.

5) Yugi Motois 

Everyone knows Yugi from anime classic YU-GI-OH. No matter what the situation, Yugi always knew how to get back in the game. Always believing in the heart of the cards always seemed to work for him lol

4) Light Yagami

This one is pretty obvious. Light is the main character of Death Note. He uses his genius to carry out his idea of justice. Killing all the world’s criminals is no easy task. It gets even harder when you have a genius detective after you. Light does his best to avoid suspicion, and he succeeds for the most part. But in the end, he is able to vanquish L, which makes him #4

3) Shikamaru Nara

Shikamaru is the brilliant strategist from Konoha in the Naruto series. His tendency to sit back and take his time to evaluate the situation is a stroke of genius. Just let your opponent think he’s winning, then come back with a plan to take him down. His abilities allow him to be a natural leader and a great strategist.

2) L

Everyone loves L! He is the direct enemy of Light from the death note series. I ranked him above Light because, he always seemed to be one step ahead. His strange behaviors make him a fan favorite, perhaps eating all that sugar makes him smarter. Even though Light tried his best to convince L that he was innocent, everyone could tell that L knew the truth right off the bat. Luckily, L’s successors we’re able to take down Light in the end. 

1) Lelouch Lamperouge

Number 1 is gonna go to the king of strategy; Lelouch. Throughout the Code Geass series, Lelouch has to use his brains to go up against enemy soldiers, then he uses it to go against the world!
